About Vibration Engineers

Vibration Engineers was founded to solve costly industrial vibration problems. What started with pulp and paper expanded quickly to mining, catalyst production, power generation, and equipment manufacturing. Our engineers combine field experience with advanced analysis techniques to diagnose and correct complex vibration problems that impact reliability and productivity.

    Founder

Jon Thornham, P.E. is a licensed mechanical engineer based in Las Vegas, Nevada, serving industrial clients across North America. After more than two decades in engineering roles spanning multiple industries, Jon founded Vibration Engineers in 2023 to provide a higher standard of vibration diagnostics and reliability support.

Originally from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Jon began his engineering career in Canada before relocating to the United States. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, New Brunswick, and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Nevada.

Over the course of his career, Jon has supported operations across a wide range of industries including pulp and paper, mining, wastewater, building automation, and sporting equipment manufacturing. His experience ranges from working with Fortune 500 companies to helping smaller facilities solve complex reliability challenges with limited internal resources.

Jon has spent the last six years specializing in vibration diagnostics and structural dynamics, with a focus on uncovering the true drivers behind recurring equipment failures. His work commonly includes rotating equipment vibration analysis, field balancing, modal and operating deflection shape testing, piping vibration assessment, fan and turbine diagnostics, finite element analysis (structural, modal, and thermal), laser scanning, and reality capture.

Vibration Engineers was created with a deliberate mission: to offer a white-glove, relationship-driven service model. Instead of managing hundreds of transactional engagements, Jon partners closely with a small group of clients, acting as an extension of their reliability and engineering teams.

Clients often describe Jon as methodical, thoughtful, and deeply invested in helping teams understand why problems occur—not just how to fix them.

Outside of work, Jon enjoys an active lifestyle with his wife, son, and dog. When he’s not on-site or analyzing data, he can often be found skiing with his family and spending time outdoors.
